Why I Walked Away from Full-Time to Build Something of My Own

After nearly 14 years in affiliate and partner marketing, I made the leap. I launched my own LLC, Dovetail Partnerships, and shifted to contract-based work.

This decision wasn’t about avoiding responsibility. It was about taking back control.

In a full-time job, one decision from someone above you can take away your entire income. When you’re a contractor, that risk is spread out. If one contract ends, it doesn’t break everything.

Contract work gives me:

  • Multiple income streams instead of one
  • The freedom to choose who I work with
  • Fewer meetings and politics, more actual work
  • The ability to own the outcome without jumping through layers of red tape

Most importantly, it lets me focus on the kind of work I do best. I’m building Dovetail Partnerships to help brands grow through smart, well-structured affiliate, influencer, and referral programs.

This isn’t a side project. This is what I do now. If your brand needs a partner who can build or improve your performance marketing strategy, I’d love to talk.
